HCAM News attended the 2014 Polyarts Festival and got caught up with some local organizations that contribute to our community.
Clorinda Creo-Kirshy of the "Hopkinton Music Association" stated that the organization provides clothing for school performances, scholarships for lessons, scholarships for graduating seniors, purchasing instruments for the schools and working with the music teachers. The Hopkinton Music Association assists with various school performances such as chorus shows and the homecoming performance. Find more information use this link
David S. Goldman of the "Hopkinton Area Land Trust" talked about how over 1,000 acres of open space has been preserved for public enjoyment. David mentioned that a project is in the works with Friends of Upton State Forest, Friends of Whitehall and Sudbury Valley Trustees to buy a piece of property off Pond St. that connects the White Hall State Park with the Upton State Forest. Peter Regan of "Friends of Whitehall" talked about ways the organization preserves Lake Whitehall "We do a lot of activities, clean up the trails, sponsor bridge building and build some bridges ourselves and serve as caretakers of the lake." Peter mentioned that the lake is special due to the lack of buildings around the lake and that it's a precious natural landmark in the area. Kim Pucci of "Sky's The Limit" talked about how the organization is attempting to transform the Hopkinton Middle School courtyard into a performance space, learning centers and a space that can be used for children in the community. The organization is selling personalized bricks that will be used in the project towards funding efforts. Find more information use this link
Sarah Bertschmann of "Keep Smilin 4 Abbie" talked about how the organization was created in honor of Abbie Benford who passed away at the age of 15 due to an anaphylactic reaction. The organization strives to increase awareness of anaphylaxis. For More Information: www.keepsmilin4abbie.org
Steve Langley of "Project Just Because" talked about how the charity works with people all throughout Massachusetts providing clothing, food, school supplies. The organization does activities such as help run the Hopkinton Food Pantry and hold fundraisers. For More Information: www.projectjustbecause.org
Ann Click of "Friends of Hopkinton 300th Anniversary Committee" was at Polyarts to help raise funds for the 300th anniversary of Hopkinton. The friends hold various activities and sell items to raise money for the anniversary celebration. For More Information: http://300.hopkintonma.gov/
