Video Segment: Signs Up Around Town Raising Runner Awareness

By Tom Nappi, News Director

You will see signs placed strategically throughout Hopkinton. The signs are an effort by several organizations to make sure drivers look out for runners training as we get closer to the Marathon. Chairman of Hopkinton Parks and Recreation Bob Dobinski explained; "the runner safety program in Hopkinton is in it's 2nd year and it started from a tragic accident down in North Carolina where a runner was killed training for the marathon."

The Hopkinton Police, Chamber of Commerce, Parks and Recreation Commission, Hopkinton Marathon Fund, 26.2 Foundation and the Hopkinton Runners Club all combined to fund the signs and raise awareness to drivers that there are runners training. Dobinski explained you will find a lot of runners training towards the center of town. Parks & Rec Director Jay Guelfi stated that a lot of runners like to run the marathon route or work there way out from the center of town. A good amount of signs can be found throughout the center of town but also on a number of side streets in Hopkinton.
