Visiting the Young Artists Gallery at the HCA

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

For the first time, the HCA has opened up its gallery exclusively for young artists to display their work. The Young Artists Exhibit, currently ongoing until August 15th, features over 50 pieces of art from artists ranging in age from 5 to 18 years old.

Not only is the exhibit a chance for these budding artists to showcase their work in a public forum, but it also gave them an opportunity to have their work judged by professional artists as well as to discuss their work during a reception held on July 21st.

12 year old Maggie MacDonald's piece, "Silver Wolf", won first place in the 5-12 age group category and 18 year old Mary Catherine Nealon's trio of photographs, "Shedding Skin", won first place in the 13-18 age group category.

HCA Artistic Director Kris Waldman, who was very pleased with the response to the exhibit, plans to make it a yearly showcase. For more information about the exhibit, visit the HCA's website at hopartscenter.org.
