The Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting Kote’m Sòti – (Where I Come From) in the Lotvin Family Gallery

Artist Marc Elie Mordan shares his work in ” Kote’m Sòti – Where I Come From”, a project aimed at educating people about the positive aspects of Haiti. While some may only perceive Haiti as a poor and corrupt nation, they often overlook its rich culture. It is the most vibrant nation in the Caribbean. Their culture includes food, music, voodoo, and art, alongside a wealth of traditional folklore. Haiti’s culture represents a unique blend of African, European, and Taino influences. In this exhibit, Marc will showcase a different side of Haiti through his paintings.

Born and raised in Haiti, Marc and his family migrated in 2013 in search of a better life. He attended Somerville High, then Bunker Hill Community College and Fisher College. Marc became frustrated with his studies, but was advised to pursue a career in something he considered just a hobby, his Art. Marc reluctantly applied to Montserrat College of Art and got accepted based on the paintings that he had been making on his own. Marc is a self-taught artist that began painting at a young age. He painted to express his experiences in Haiti, and the poverty he longed to leave behind. Marc received his degree at Montserrat as an abstract expressionist in 2024. His work has been featured in numerous community public art galleries in the cities of Everett and Somerville. His art represents Haiti’s culture and strives to educate others about the rich and countless beauties of Haiti and its people.

Entry to view the exhibition is always free. The address is 98 Hayden Rowe St in Hopkinton. The HCA is pleased to offer private and group docent tours upon request. For more details, call 508-435-9222 or visit our website at www.hopartscenter.org
