Hopkinton Police and Fire Departments Respond to Demolition Incident on Main Street

Police Chief Joseph Bennett and Fire Chief Gary Daugherty report that the Hopkinton Police and Fire Departments responded to an unexpected incident during building demolition operations Wednesday afternoon.

On Wednesday, Aug. 27, at approximately 2:43 p.m., Hopkinton Police and Fire responded to a reported partial building collapse at 52 Main St.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a crew was working to demolish the former Hopkinton Drug building, located at the intersection of Main Street and Grove Street (Route 85), when a portion of the structure unexpectedly fell toward the sidewalk area and partially into the street.

Hopkinton Police and Fire immediately responded to the scene and secured the area. Firefighters searched the debris and confirmed that no one was injured as a result of the incident.

Traffic on Main Street was reduced to one lane while first responders worked at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
