The Town of Hopkinton announces that American Environmental has secured the Center School site and will begin preparing to remove hazardous materials before demolishing the building’s two additions.
Demolition is still anticipated to begin in December. The hazardous materials removal and demolition phase is expected to take approximately three months.
The work will remove the building’s 1950 and 1980 additions to prepare for restoration of the original 1928 school building. Once demolition is complete, crews will level and stabilize the site in preparation for the next phase.
The property, including access to the walking trail, will remain closed to the public during the project. The closure is required for public safety and under the contractor’s insurance requirements. Signs will identify the property as an active construction site, with access limited to authorized personnel.
Construction will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Signs along Ash Street will alert residents to the work. All construction vehicles will be staged on the Center School property, and no traffic interruptions are anticipated.
