Mary Ellen Kenney (O’Toole), 81, passed peacefully on December 14, 2025, at Metrowest Medical Center of Framingham following a brief illness. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Hannigan) O’Toole. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Robert J. Kenney, in 2023.
Mary Ellen was a 1962 graduate of Framingham High School. Following her marriage to Bob, she established a successful career in real estate and then became a contractor and built homes until her retirement.
Mary Ellen is survived by her two sons, Sean and Patrick, a grandson, Tyler, two great-granddaughters, Maggie and Riley, her sister, Catherine Brown (Donald), and seven nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her brother, Michael O’Toole, and her daughter, Karen Kenney.
The funeral will be held Friday, December 19 at 9:30 a.m. from the Callanan Cronin Funeral Home, 34 Church Street. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Parish, 20 Church Street. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday, December 18 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Framingham Heart Study.
