(MIAA) Walpole High School continued its sectional championship reign, and Hopkinton High School completed its quick rise to the top in just its fourth season as a varsity program.
Hopkinton secured its North/Central/West sectional championship on Tuesday, May 26 at Ellinwood Country Club in Athol, then a day later it was Walpole’s turn to rule the course at Foxborough Country Club.
The top three teams from each sectional, plus top individual finishers, will fill the 64-player field for the 2025 MIAA State Championships on Monday, June 1 at Indian Pond Golf Club in Kingston.
North/Central/West Sectional
Gigi Linton tied for seventh overall for Hopkinton, which was in control throughout and finished with a team score of 369.
In the individual battle, Sophie Redmond shot a 2-under-par 69 to edge past 2025 medalist Maddie Smith of Westford Academy. Redmond had finished fourth a year ago behind Smith, who this time around carded a 2-over 73 for second place.
Cecily Henshon of Longmeadow High School (3-over 74) and Rebecca Kriegsman of Ashland High School (6-over 77) were third and fourth, respectively. Tied for fifth at 7-over 78 were Georgia Beland of Notre Dame Academy of Worcester and Rory Herrick of Tantasqua Regional High School.
Linton was next on the leaderboard, and was joined in the scoring by Hillers teammates Reese Robledo (T-15, 90), Leah Hong (T-20, 92) and Bridget Wilk (T-36, 103).
Beland led Notre Dame Academy to second place, 16 shots back (385). Defending champion Wellesley High School was third (389).
