National Foundation for Governors' Fitness Council Brings Campaign for Youth Fitness to Massachusetts

The National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils brought its multi-million dollar physical fitness campaign to Massachusetts today. The National Foundation supports youth fitness in schools by awarding innovative school programs with fitness centers. The program is open to all public or public charter elementary or middle schools in Gateway Cities across the state. A school selected by the National Foundation will be named a National Champion School and will receive a state-of-the-art Live PositivelyTM Fitness Center for their efforts.

Price Chopper Preview Party Wednesday Night

The grand opening celebration of Price Chopper’s new store in Hopkinton will kick off with a catered Preview Party on Wednesday evening, June 20, to benefit the Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton, Hopkinton Youth Soccer and Project Just Because, while a flag raising ceremony by VFW Post #2331 Ashland Memorial and the National Anthem performed by Trina Vargas will mark the store official Grand Opening on Thursday morning. The Metrowest Symphony Orchestra will also be performing.

Solarize Mass Installer for Hopkinton Selected

Solarize Massachusetts Hopkinton and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) are pleased to announce the selection of SolarFlair Energy Inc. as the Solarize Mass installer for Hopkinton. SolarFlair Energy Inc. will work with Andy Boyce of the Hopkinton Sustainable Green Committee, the Solarize Mass Community Solar Coach, to implement the program in partnership with MassCEC. A “Solar 201” public meeting will be scheduled on June 28, 2012 to introduce the installer to the community, and answer questions from residents and business owners in Hopkinton.

Russo Bros Inc would like everyone to be aware that there will be no roadway construction on Front Street Tuesday, June 19,2012. The scheduled watermain shut down and construction at Front Street an Hopkins Road will resume on Wednesday, June 20,2012. Any questions or concerns please let me know.

1-1 Laptop Initiative Gets Approval for Fall 2012

Hopkinton High School is pleased to announce that the Hopkinton School Committee unanimously approved moving forward with the 1-1 laptop initiative for the 9th graders at the high school next year at their meeting on Thursday, June 14th. 83% of parents in the incoming 9th grade class committed to either lease a laptop from the school or bring in their own device, which surpassed the 80% goal which was set by the administration. Students who are not leasing a laptop from the school or bringing their own device, will have access to a school owned laptop to use during the school day.

Massachusetts Continues to Add Jobs; May Unemployment Drops to 6.0%

The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development today reported that the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ preliminary May 2012 estimates show thatMassachusetts added 7,500 jobs over the month, for a total of 3,249,600 jobs. The May job gain follows a revised 1,700 job gain in April. The total unemployment rate dropped to 6.0 percent, 0.3 of a percentage point below the April rate of 6.3 percent andwell below the national rate of 8.2 percent.
