Library Director Nanci Hill and the Hopkinton Public Library are pleased to announce two new learning initiatives that aim to help community members learn new things, engage and connect.
Coffee House Series
The library, in partnership with the Hopkinton Public Library Foundation and the Hopkinton Cultural Council, will host its first Coffee House event in April as part of a new series. The first event will feature a performance by Flamenco Boston.
The performance will take place on Saturday, April 6 at the library, 13 Main St. Coffee and light refreshments will be served at 12:30 p.m. and the performance will begin in the Betty Strong Room at 1 p.m.
The first Coffee House event will spotlight Flamenco Boston whose performance will feature two dancers, a singer and a guitarist. In addition to the musical performance, the group will talk about the history of flamenco and the intercultural relationships that influenced it.
After the performance, guests will be invited to participate in a short dance lesson. No registration is required. To learn more about Flamenco Boston, click here.
The new Coffee House series will feature a range of cultural and artistic performances hosted at the library. The events aim to offer community members access to arts and culture, enjoy free professional performances in a relaxed environment, and create an additional gathering space for the community to connect with their neighbors.
Seed Library
The Hopkinton Public Library is also excited to announce the launch of a Seed Library. Seed Libraries have been debuting around the country, including in Massachusetts. The Seed Library is an opportunity for patrons to plant, learn and engage in gardening and sustainability initiatives.
Located just inside the library's Church Street entrance, the Seed Library is open as a free resource to all community members. Participants can choose from over 25 flower, herb and vegetable seeds. They may “check out” up to five packets of seeds per visit via a sign-out sheet.
Along with the seeds, the library has many gardening books and resources on each seed's growing needs available to help patrons get started.
The Seed Library launched for patrons this week and is available whenever the library is open.
The Seed Library is generously funded in part by the Hopkinton Garden Club. The Hopkinton Garden Club, founded in 1924, is a member of The Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts.
