What is happening

I-90 East and Westbound Travel Lane Closures for Bridge Waterproofing and Paving

The primary work this weekend will be to waterproof and pave the westbound bridge over Woodland Road and the eastbound bridge over Cordaville Road in Southborough and the westbound bridge over Flanders Road in Westborough during overnight hours from Thursday, August 12, to Monday morning, August 16.

This work will require alternating lane closures on I-90 east and westbound during the weekend; all lane closures will be limited to overnight and early morning hours.

Work hours are from:

8:30 PM on Thursday, August 12, to 6:00 AM on Friday, August 13
8:00 PM on Friday, August 13, to 8:00 AM on Saturday, August 14
9:00 PM on Saturday, August 14, to 9:00 AM on Sunday, August 15
8:00 PM on Sunday, August 15, to 6:00 AM on Monday, August 16
In addition to waterproofing and paving, MassDOT will continue to replace guardrails and the median barrier and upgrade stormwater drainage.

These activities are similar to other MassDOT highway improvement projects and, as with any major construction project, the work is subject to change without notice due to weather and other unforeseen conditions.

There will be no median crossover and no impacts to local roads below the bridges during this weekend.

There will be advance signage in place to alert drivers to the I-90 lane closures.

MassDOT has replaced bridges on I-90 east and westbound over Flanders Road in Westborough and Parkerville Road, Cordaville Road, and Woodland Road in Southborough as part of this project. The replacement of the eight bridges (2 spans per local road) was completed on Monday, August 9. Remaining work entails more typical highway improvement work, which will not require full weekend closures and crossovers, but will require lane closures.

How will this affect me?

If you travel on I-90:

During the work, travel lanes in both directions of I-90 will be reduced between Route 9 in Framingham (Exit 111) and I-495 (Exit 106) in Hopkinton, which will result in higher than normal congestion.

Travel Tips

Plan ahead: The reduction of I-90 travel lanes will result in higher than normal congestion, drivers should plan accordingly.

Drivers traveling in both directions should expect delays.
