Post Prom Party a Huge Success!

The Class of 2012 Post Prom Committee would like to thank the many parents, businesses, administration of the Hopkinton High School, and members of the Hopkinton Community who contributed to making the Post Prom Party a huge success. Particular thanks go to Pam Missaggia and her decorating crew for transforming the High School into A Night at the Grammy’s. Co-chairs Fran Levergood and Tee Johnson with their team, coordinated food for the hundreds of students who attended the party.

At the May 16, 2011, Annual Town Election, voters were asked to fill all five seats on the new Board of Library Trustees. In order to stagger the terms of board members, candidates were to be elected to varying terms of office, with the top two candidates receiving three-year seats, the next two candidates receiving two-year seats, and the fifth candidate receiving a one-year seat.

Income Tax Deduction for Organ Donation

Today, the Senate adopted Senator Karen Spilka’s (D-Ashland) amendment ‘Gift of Life’ to the Senate budget, which creates an income tax deduction for citizens of Massachusetts who donate an organ, while living, to another human being.

‘Gift of Life’ will allow living organ donors a state income tax deduction of up to $10,000 in related expenses that include travel expenses, lodging expenses, and lost wages that are incurred by the donor and related to his or her organ donation that are not reimbursed in any way.

McGovern on Afghanistan

Earlier today, over 200 of my colleages stood with me in voting for the McGovern-Jones amendment, sending the strongest bipartisan message yet that it is time to bring our troops home from Afghanistan.

The reasons for our landmark effort are simple: We have no clear mission; the Afghanistani government is corrupt; and we continue to borrow and spend billions of dollars to pay for the longest war in our nation's history. For what?

I believe we need to re-think what we're doing in Afghanistan.

Annual Drinking Water Quality Report

The Water Department has completed the annual drinking water quality report. This consumer confidence report is a requirement of the EPA and will be distributed by July 1st for the previous calendar year reporting period. The State of Massachusetts has waived the mailing requirement for systems that serve fewer than 10,000 people. The report will be inserted in the Hopkinton Independent. In addition, copies are available on the Water Department web page and at the Water Department office, 85 Wood Street from 7:00am to 3:30pm.

Another Hopkinton Hero

HCAM's Production Coordinator Mike Torosian is in the news today. Read the article from today's MetroWest Daily News that tells how Torosian, an Ashland firefighter who was off-duty, revived a Holliston woman at a local bar. As reported by the MetroWest Daily News, Fire Lt. Lyn Moraghan credited Torosian and the police officers for their quick action, which she said probably increased the woman's chance of survival significantly.

Join Hopkinton Cub Scouts!

An information session will be held on Thursday, June 9 at 7:00-8:30pm at St John's Church Hall for boys entering grades 1-5 in Fall 2011. Parents and boys: Come learn about the fun and benefits of Cub Scouting. All three Hopkinton Cub Scout Packs will be represented. The presentation begins at 7:15pm, followed by a Q&A and chance to meet leaders from each pack. There are currently openings in all three Hopkinton Cub Scout Packs for boys entering First Grade in 2011, and various openings in each Pack for boys entering Second through Fifth Grades.
