The Hopkinton Marathon Committee will help celebrate 100 Boston Marathon starts in Hopkinton with a 100 yard dash for kids at the Boston Marathon starting line adjacent to the Hopkinton Common on Saturday, April 13 at 1pm.

“We wanted to coordinate an opportunity for the youth of Hopkinton to Celebrate the Anniversary of 100 Starts in Hopkinton,” said Dorothy Ferriter-Wallace. “We are pleased to have the support of many town officials who will be on hand for the event. We are grateful to Select Board and Hopkinton Marathon Fund Committee for the approval to purchase bib numbers, T-shirts, and medals. Members of the Hopkinton High School track team will be on hand to help at the event. As a bonus, the weather looks fantastic. We encourage everyone to come out to cheer on these young runners and to take part in all the festivities on the Hopkinton Common.”

A tremendous response to this free event has the race at capacity with 140 young runners, who will each receive a race T-shirt, a bib number, and a medal similar to those completing the marathon distance on Patriots’ Day.

The Hopkinton Marathon Committee was established in 1979 to work in conjunction with the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.), the organizers of the Boston Marathon, to ensure that the annual running of the race is an exciting, successful and safe event for all concerned. Committee members contribute their efforts throughout the entire year to the planning, organization, and coordination of multiple facets of the race, working to protect the best interests and welfare of the town, its residents, businesses and visitors.
