Hopkinton School Committee approves contract with Hopkinton Paraprofessionals’ Union

The Hopkinton School Committee is pleased to announce they have approved a contract with Hopkinton Paraprofessionals’ Union, SEIU Local 888, representing the paraprofessional workers in the Hopkinton School District. The newly formed union covers the General Teaching Assistants, Special Education Teaching Assistants, Library Assistants and Math Tutors. The agreement, approved by the School Committee at its June 14 meeting, covers a four year span through a one year contract dating July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012, and a three year contract covering July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2015.

Touch A Truck Fundraiser This Sunday

The Hopkinton Public Library Foundation will be hosting its 1st Annual Touch-A-Truck event this Sunday, June 24th, in the Colella's parking lot from 11-2. There will be over 20 vehicles donated from local businesses that kids can climb on, pretend tp drive, and honk the horn. There will be plenty of picture opportunities!
The first hour will be "horn free" for little people with sensitive ears.

Summer Music Fest at Hopkinton Center for the Arts Today!

A Summer Music Fest featuring continuous live music will be held at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts, 98 Hayden Rowe Street on Saturday, June 23 from 1:00 to 8:30 p.m. Enjoy live performances by “locally grown” artists in the genres of rock, alternative rock, blues, ska and folk. There will also be food, crafts, artisans, hot air balloon rides, and raffles.

DCR Seeks Artists to Paint “Iron Ranger” Donation Containers in the Parks

The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is seeking artists to paint wildlife and landscape scenes on more than 100 Iron Rangers, the metal donation containers located in state parks across the Commonwealth.

The 42-inch-high steel containers are designed to accept financial contributions from park users, which directly benefit the state parks system through the Conservation Trust and Urban Parks Trust. The artist program, now in its seventh year, is open to the public.

Hopkinton 300th Anniversary Commemorative Quilt Project

In honor and celebration of the 300th Anniversary of the town of Hopkinton, a commemorative quilt is being planned. The theme for the town anniversary celebration is “Celebrating our Past; Embracing our Present; Inspiring our Future.”

The 300th Anniversary Quilt Steering Committee is interested in input from the community regarding themes, images, and motifs for the commemorative quilt. Throughout the summer, forms will be available at the

· Hopkinton Senior Center, and

· Colellas coffee shop

Once again Hopkinton Middle School and HPTA are looking to provide opportunities for students to participate in FIRST LEGO League, an international robotics and science competition.

The program requires teams to participate equally in both a robot game (using LEGO NXT robots and MINDSTORMS software) and a research project, and requires significant work from participants both at team sessions and at home. Please visit the FLL website to learn more about the program.
