Question 1:
Shall the Town of Hopkinton be allowed to exempt from the limitation on total taxes imposed by Chapter 59, Section 21C of the Massachusetts General Laws (Proposition 2 ½, so-called) the amounts required to pay for the bond issued to provide for the purchase of a Fire Department Tender Truck?

The Hopkinton Lions Club is proud to announce an event called ‘The Grocery Dash’. The event will be held at Colella’s Supermarket on June 13, 2012 at 10:00am and will allow two lucky winners a total of four minutes to collect as much food as they can gather in four minutes for free. Grocery carts will be supplied at each end of every aisle as all items MUST be within a cart to be counted. There are some exclusions and they are as follows: lottery tickets, gift cards, alcoholic drinks and all smoking items and the winner will be restricted to three (3 ) meat items either fresh or frozen.

Dorothy M. “Dotty'” Nugent, 84, passed away, Friday May 18, 2012, after a long illness. She was the widow of Arthur J. “Brud” Nugent, Jr., who died in April 1986. Born in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late George and Emma (Rowan) Gallagher. She was a longtime resident Hopkinton, MA, where she and her husband built a home and raised their family. She was a charter member of the Worcester Eagles. She was involved in her community as a Scout leader, an advocate for preserving Lake Maspenock, and was a fixture at Town Meetings until the onset of her illness.

Today, Senator Karen Spilka filed amendments to the Senate fiscal year 2013 budget that will directly benefit MetroWest, including support for the Natick Veterans Oral History Project and Framingham-based Tempo, a resource center helping underprivileged young people become healthy and productive adults.

The Varsity Baseball team improved to 12-3 (12-3 TVL) with a 7-3 victory at Medway on Thursday, May 17. Sophomore lefty Nick Burns picked up his fourth win, as well as his fourth complete game, striking out 11 and limiting Medway to just the three runs. Senior catcher Craig Levergood led the offense, going 3-4 with a pair of RBI's. Senior centerfielder Alex Hulme (2 hits, RBI) and Junior leftfielder Connor Hudson (single, two walks, RBI, two runs scored) also had big days at the plate for the Hillers. Hopkinton returns to action at home on Monday, May 21 vs. Westwood.

Crunching through 265 amendments during two full days of public debate, the Senate on Thursday capped a framework of nation-leading health care reforms with landmark cost-control legislation that will save the Commonwealth $150 billion in the next 15 years while improving the quality of care and increasing the transparency and accountability of the state’s entire health care system, announced Senator Karen Spilka.

The Varsity Baseball team improved to 11-3 (11-3 TVL) with a 12-0 victory at home over Millis on Wednesday, May 16. Senior righthanders Tim Moberg and Jason Cardillo combined on the shutout, with Moberg going six innings and striking out seven. Moberg helped his own cause at the plate as well with a 2-run homer. Junior shortstop Ryan Sullivan (double, home run, 3 RBI), Senior centerfielder Alex Hulme (2 hits, home run, 3 RBI), and Jake Haroian (2 hits, double, 2 runs scored) led the offense for the Hillers. Hopkinton returns to action on Thursday, May 17 when they travel to Medway.

A letter of request from the Hopkinton Department of Public Works:

The Hopkinton Department of Public Works asks for your continued support of its efforts to replace the DPW facility on Wood Street. The Annual Town Meeting of 2011 appropriated $250,000 for the design of a new DPW facility on Wood Street. That vote requires approval at the ballot on Monday, May 21st. The DPW asks for your continued support of this important initiative.

The Hopkinton Republican Town Committee will be meeting on Saturday, May 19th at 9am at the Second Floor Training Room of the Hopkinton Fire Department. Park at 77 Main Street and enter the back door. All Republican and unenrolled voters are invited to attend.
