Joseph Kennedy III Running for 4th Congressional District

Joseph Kennedy III, the son of former U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy II and a grandson of the late Robert F. Kennedy, officially announced his candidacy for the 4th Congressional District.

Kennedy recently moved from Cambridge to Brookline, part of the state's newly redrawn 4th Congressional District. Hopkinton, previously in the 3rd Congressional District represented by Jim McGovern, is now in the 4th District which stretches from Brookline to Fall River.

It was Senior night at the Navin rink as the Hillers took on Bellingham in a TVL tilt. The Hillers fell to the BlackHawks 4-1. Connor Engstrom had the lone Hopkinton goal. The Hillers final game is next Wednesday, against Assebet.

Hopkinton Parks and Recreation Starts New Youth Football Program

Last night the Hopkinton Parks & Recreation Commissioners gave the OK to form a new football program. Open to residents of both Hopkinton and Ashland for children currently in 1st through 7th grade (2nd through 8th grade in Fall of 2012).

“Adding a football program into our current offerings allows us to continue to provide and promote high quality recreational experiences to the community and fully utilize some of the outstanding facilities we’ve developed over the last few years,” stated Ken Driscoll, Chairman of the Parks & Recreation Commission.

Ken Weismantel Announces Re-election Bid for Planning Board

Ken Weismantel, 145 Ash Street, announced today that he is seeking re-election to the Hopkinton Planning Board.

“I am running for re-election to continue the permitting process of Legacy Farms and continue the efforts to attract new businesses to Hopkinton. The purpose is to increase the town’s commercial tax base while maintaining our town’s character. As the Planning Board Chairman, I have first-hand knowledge of the town’s zoning and permitting procedures. This experience is essential to attainment of the town’s master plan goals and financial stability.”

James “Bud” Davis, 83

James “Bud” Davis, 83, of Hopkinton, passed away February 10, 2012. Born
in Needham, he was the son of the late Florence (Tully) and Albert Davis.
He was the husband of the late Pamela M. (Martlin) Davis.

A Hopkinton resident for over 50 years, Bud was a member of the National
Guard for 10 years and worked at the National Guard Supply Depot for 39
years.

Capital Improvement Committee Votes Recommendations Tonight

The Capital Improvements Committee (CIC) meets tonight at 6:30PM in Room 215 at Town Hall. According to their posted agenda, the commitee will vote on the preliminary list of capital projects and make their recommendations on which projects they support for the annual Town Meeting in May.

As of the January 17th meeting of the Board of Selectmen, where CIC Chairman James Gosselin presented a preliminary capital budget for FY2013, capital projects totalled $8.2 million for the upcoming fiscal year.

Continuing the Patrick-Murray Administration’s commitment to increasing government efficiency and accountability, Governor Deval Patrick delivered the keynote address today at a conference on performance management in government hosted by the Edwin J. Collins Center for Public Management at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
