Largest Duct Tape Purse Ever Made in Hopkinton

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

If you had the chance to break a Guinness World Record, what would you attempt to do? Well these 7 Hopkinton 2nd and 4th graders decided to make the world's largest duct tape purse. The idea stemmed from 4th grader Madison McDougall who noticed that the her friends and she tended to make items out of duct tape when they played together.

As the project grew, the girls decided to make an attempt to beat the world record. Currently, the record stands at 8 feet. And at 22 feet, 6 inches, the girls' purse more than doubles that! And at a cost of $1000 to make, more than many designer purses, the group needed to figure out ways to raise the money for supplies.

The purse took the girls 6 months to complete and they enlisted the help of friends Karen Gallagher and Olivia Sward with some of the finishing touches .

The girls submitted their application to the Guinness Book of World Records in late October and should find out shortly if they officially broke the record.

No matter the outcome, the girls are proud of their accomplishments, and want to let those in the community know about what they achieved.

Ultimately, the girls say that gained so much out of this experience and that their bond as friends is even stronger now.

Next up for the girls? They plan on designing the world's largest duct tape wallet. Reporting for HCAM News, I'm Stephanie Kane.
