Town Manager Norman Khumalo and Commission Chair Daniel Terry announce that Parks and Recreation Director Jay Guelfi will be retiring from his position later this year.

Director Guelfi has been with the Town of Hopkinton since January 2015. During that time, he has overseen the department and all of its programming and events, including archery, art classes, softball, chess, filmmaking, fishing, golf, playground groups, STEM classes and more.

“We are grateful to Jay for his dedication to Hopkinton Parks and Recreation,” Commissioner Terry said. “He has had a lasting impact on the progress and growth of the department and has been instrumental to the success of the programs we are able to offer people of all ages.”

Guelfi worked to ensure all Parks and Recreation programs were inclusive and community input was taken into consideration when forming new camps and classes. Farmers markets, movie nights and concerts are also hosted in the park for the public to enjoy.

Guelfi will remain in his current role through the end of 2023, allowing the town sufficient time to fill his role and to ensure continuity of service for the community during the transition process.

“We know how much our community values Parks and Recreation programs and events, and we will work to ensure they run without disruption during this transition process,” Town Manager Khumalo said. “Jay was an asset to the town and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”
