Resident Urges Voters to Re-elect Jean Bertschmann to Keep School District on Upward Track

As we all well know, Hopkinton schools have been on an upward trajectory for several years now in its pursuit of excellence and continuous improvement in all areas. It is no coincidence, for instance, that Hopkinton High School was recently ranked by Newsweek magazine as 95th in the country and second in the state behind Boston Latin Academy.

And this just in – even more exciting news: The high school was named number three in the state and awarded a gold medal for outstanding accomplishments by U.S. News and World Report.

Norton Falls In Baseball And Softball

The Varsity Baseball team improved to 9-3 (9-3 TVL) with a 10-2 win at home over Norton on Wednesday, May 9. Sophomore lefty Nick Burns picked up his third win of the season, striking out 12 and allowing 0 earned runs in 6 strong innings of work. Senior Jason Cardillo threw a 1-2-3 7th to finish the game off. Hopkinton broke the game open early, striking for 3 runs in the first inning and 4 more in the second. Senior first baseman Tim Moberg hit a 2-run home run in the first inning to give Hopkinton a lead they would not relinquish.

2012 Annual Town Meeting: Night 3 Recap

The third night of Hopkinton’s 2012 Annual Town Meeting took a little longer to get started, as there was a short wait for a quorum. Beginning with Article 41, the meeting once again lasted until 11PM at which time the final article was voted and the meeting was adjourned until the day of the Annual Town Election on Monday, May 21, 2012.

The third night of Town Meeting dealt primarily with general bylaw and zoning bylaw amendments and administrative matters.

Sixteen Hopkinton Students Place at State Level - Three More Move on to National PTA Reflections Program

Students from schools across Massachusetts were honored on April 28th at the Fitchburg Art Museum for placing at the state level of the National Reflections Program competition.

Sixteen Hopkinton students placed at the state level and received awards for arts excellence and achievement through the National PTA Reflections program.

Three students placed first in their categories: Helen Gao, Matthew Paolucci, and Sean Walker. These students will move onto the national level of competition.

Brian Herr Appointed to Downtown Initiative Steering Committee

Voted at the April 24th meeting of the Board of Selectmen, and announced today via email from the Town Manger's office, Brian Herr of 31 Elizabeth Road, has been appointed to the Downtown Initiative Steering Committee (DISC) for a term of three years. Herr was sworn in by the Town Clerk's office, today, May 9th and his appointment to DISC is now official.

May 2012 Town Meeting Recap: Second Night

Beginning with Article 24: High School track Renovation, Hopkinton’s annual Town Meeting entered its second night of voting. The cost associated with the renovation totalled $278,500 and both the Appropriation and Capital Improvement Committees recommended this article. After some debate and questions about cost and the life of the renovations, the article passed with the required two-thirds majority. Requires approval at ballot on May 21.
