Cestari Up for Re-Election

Todd Cestari, current Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, confirmed in a phone interview that he will be seeking re-election to the board in May.

With many of the nationwide problems of three years ago still present, and affecting local government and making things fiscally difficult, Cestari says he hopes to maintain the fiscal discipline put in place by the Board during his three year tenure.

“We are lucky to have a board that will work collaboratively and I want to continue to be part of that,” said Cestari.

High School Robotics Team Qualifies for State Championship

The high school robotics team competed in the North Andover First Robotics Qualifier Tournament on January 14th at North Andover High School. The team used a sophisticated lifting mechanism and good match tactics to finish 5th overall out of twenty teams.

The team won the tournament's Connect Award for it's work promoting robotics at the lower grade levels. The combination of winning this award and finishing 5th overall qualified the team for the highly competitive Massachusetts State First Robotics Championship in early March (final date/location TBA).

HCA Call for Artists and Performers for Spring Arts Festival

The Hopkinton Center for the Arts is issuing a call for artists, crafters, performers, and musicians for the Spring Arts Festival that will take place May 5 from 11:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the HCA, 98 Hayden Rowe, Hopkinton. The Spring Arts Festival will be a regional celebration where community members can come together to enjoy a juried craft show and live music, drama, and dance performances.

Hillers Tie DS

The Hillers played a tough Dover-Sherborn team yesterday in Natick and battled them to a 0-0 Tie. The Raiders have been playing great hockey knocking off Bellingham 9-1 and tying Medfield. Billy Elder was again outstanding in the nets, making several game saving saves. The Hillers had to kill off a penalty with under 2 minutes to go.

Two Meetings Scheduled to Discuss Downtown Plan

Aesthetic improvements, pedestrian safety, parking, changes to the major intersections and the possible placement of utility lines underground are all being discussed.

Planning Board to Discuss Downtown Project on Monday Night

The next meeting of the Hopkinton Planning Board is scheduled for 7:30pm on Monday, February 6, 2012. First up on the agenda is a review and discussion of the Downtown Project and next steps. The plan will be presented to the Planning Board at this meeting and residents are invited to attend, to ask questions and to offer recommendations. The Design Review Board, Historic District Commission, Historical Commission and Downtown Revitalization Committee have been invited to participate in the meeting.

Ashland Resident to Challenge Spilka for Senate Seat

Senator Karen Splika will face a challenger from her hometown of Ashland in this year's election. Sarah Schultz, an Ashland High School graduate who attended UMass Amherst will officially kick off her campaign on Saturday, February 4 at 7PM at the American Legion hall in Ashland.

According to her press release, Schultz is running on three basic principles; 1) bringing diversity to a one-sided legislature, 2) assuring balance in the legislative process, and 3) acting as an independent and ethical voice for communities.
