The Election Calendar for 2012 is now available and is attached below. Also included is the list of offices that will appear on the Annual Town Election ballot. Nomination papers are available in the Town Clerk's office. Voter registration forms are available in the Town Clerk's Office and at the Library.

News from the Town Clerk's Office: Annual Street Listing forms have been mailed and Town Clerk Ann Click is asking that all residents please sign, date and return the forms within 10 days, even if there are no changes in your household. If you are a new resident, you are asked to provide all of the information requested.
In addition, due to changes in the Hopkinton precincts, approximately 150 households will also receive notification of a change of precinct effective December 31, 2011.
Donald A. Hitchings, 92, of Hopkinton, passed away, Sunday, January 8, 2012 at the Milford Regional Medical Center. Born in Lynn, he was the son
of the late, Bertha and Charles Hitchings.
A Tech Sergeant during WWII in the Marines, Donald had been stationed in Okinawa, Japan and was a member of the VMF323 (Death Rattlers). He was the owner/proprietor of Hitchings Hardware and former owner of Don’s Taxi in Hopkinton. He was a member of the Hopkinton Auxiliary Police Department
and a softball player for Kenney’s and Hitching’s softball teams.
Due to recent districting changes, Hopkinton is now part of the 4th Congressional District and will no longer be represented by Jim McGovern. With the decision of Barney Frank not to seek re-election already made, several candidates have recently declared their intent to run for his seat in the 4th Congressional District. One of those candidates is Sharon resident and Democrat Marty Farren.
Farren says he is not a career politician, will not give in to special interests, and his first and only priority is creating a better future for Massachusetts.
The Varsity Hockey team lost a close tilt with Dover-Sherborn this afternoon by a score of 6-3. The score was a lot closer then it seemed with the Hillers actually tying the game in the third, only to have a quick whistle negate the score. DS then scored on the powerplay and added to empty netters.
Eric Guilmette, Greg Rodeck and Ian Murphy scored the goals. Danny Collins got his first start in net and made some outstanding saves to keep the Hillers close.
The School Committee met jointly with the Board of Selectmen on Wednesday, January 4, to present the results from the Elementary School Building Survey. Out of the seven hypothetical solutions presented in the survey, no one option emerged as a clear winner, but the option to expand at the Elmwood location and to renovate and expand the existing location at Center School were the two options that appeared to have the most community support. What did come through clearly was the lack of support for any form of districting.

A new Hopkinton Public Schools web site was unveiled at the school committee meeting on January 5, 2012. The site will be open for community feedback until Feb 4, 2011 and will go live on Feb 4, 2011.

The Planning Board will discuss proposed modifications to the Site Plan Review and Off-Street Parking Regulations By-Laws at their next meeting on Monday, January 9th. As usual, the meeting will take place in Room 211 in Town Hall beginning at 7:30pm.

On Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at 7pm Chinese Language Teacher Wang Xiaona will speak about teenage life and culture in China at the Hopkinton Public Library. Included in her presentation will be descriptions of what school is like in China, as well as the life of parents and teachers.
Wang Xiaona comes to Hopkinton through the Teachers of Critical Languages Program (TCLP), a program which brings teachers from China and Egypt to teach Chinese and Arabic at elementary and secondary schools in the United States for an academic year.
