The Kris Waldman Curator-In-Residence Exhibition is named in honor of Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) founding co-director, who shares a great passion for art that fosters dialogue around diversity, equity, and inclusivity, particularly of underrepresented communities.
HCA is calling curators to apply for our annual Curator-In-Residence program. Through a competitive proposal process, one individual or team will be chosen each year to curate a group art show centered on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The curator will be require to deliver a public presentation or workshop with an educational component.
A $1,000 stipend will be awarded to the curator to realize their proposed exhibition.
Those interested in applying for this program must demonstrate an awareness of the opportunities and challenges of curating a gallery exhibition for the general public. The curator will work closely with HCA’s Exhibition Director in realizing this exhibition.
Proposals must outline a theme centered on diversity and inclusion.

ABOUT THE JURORS
Leslie Condon is a Boston-area visual artist, independent curator, and emerging arts scholar. She primarily works in graphite or various three-dimensional mediums. Leslie's recent work addresses the complexity of identity within immigrant communities of color. As a scholar, Leslie is interested in Critical Race Art History and representation within the arts. Leslie graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a minor in the Fine Arts. She briefly attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts as a Diploma student and earned her Post Baccalaureate in Fine Art 3D from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2011. Leslie was the 2021 recipient ot the Kris Waldman Curator-In-Residence Exhibit
Payal Thiffault is a visual artist and co-founder of Atelier ID Global and Juniper Rag magazine based in Massachusetts. Payal graduated from Clark University with a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and Economics. She has always been drawn to both - the creative and business side of design. In her early career, Payal was a design director who developed and led product lines for one of the country’s top fine stationery and luxury goods businesses, while growing strategic partnerships with leading retail and fashion brands in the country. In Payal’s personal work as an artist, she celebrates nature, personal growth and emotions through watercolor and mixed media. Over the last year, she has shown in galleries in Newton, Boston & Worcester.
Michelle May is a visual artist and co-founder of Atelier ID Global and Juniper Rag visual art and lifestyle magazine. Creativity and community have driven her professional work. As visual artists and design project leaders, Michelle and Payal began their professional careers in stationery. In marketing roles, Michelle developed and managed company-wide growth strategies and the social media strategy of one of the oldest paper companies in the US with over 200,000 retail stores. Michelle is also the founder of and contributor to many cultural and tech events. An active curator and event organizer in Worcester, she showcases local artists and contributes to awareness of the culture of the city. As an artist herself, Michelle currently works mostly in abstract, inspired by travel, all things organic, as well as natural and coastal atmospheres and architecture especially when in the state of decay or growth.
Sarah Alexander, the current Director of Visual Arts at Hopkinton Center for the Arts, is a Core Artist Member at Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA. Her work is in private collections and has been shown extensively throughout New England, as well as abroad. Sarah's work has been published by North Light Books, and she was recently a featured artist in the NARM Quarterly magazine.
