After 3 years of service to Hopkinton, Operations Assistant to Town Manager Norman Khumalo, Jamie Hellen will be leaving to become deputy town administrator in Franklin. Hellen was appointed by Town Manager Norman Khumalo in 2012. In addition to assisting Selectmen and the Town Manager, Hellen helped on a number of other projects in town including the Boston Marathon and the 300th Anniversary celebration.

How do you begin to thank a person who has given selfless and dedicated service to her community? For starters you have a party. And that is just what colleagues, family and friends are planning for Maureen Dwinnell who will retire, at the end of the year, after 26 years, 8 months, and 8 days as the Treasurer/Collector for Hopkinton. In addition to her work as Treasurer/Collector, Maureen also served as Selectman for 6 years and as the Chairman for 5 of those years.
Sergeants Joseph Bennett and John Porter of the Hopkinton Police Department were promoted to Lieutenant.
The Hopkinton Fire Chief Search Committee concluded its work last night by recommending two candidates to the Board of Selectman: Hopkinton Fire Department Deputy Chief Steve Slaman, and Framingham Fire Chief (and former Hopkinton Fire Chief) Gary Daugherty.
Current Chief Ken Clark plans to retire in January of 2016.
Representing the Search Committee were Selectman John Mosher, Town Manager Norman Khumalo, Human Resources Director Maria Casey, Newburyport Fire Chief Christopher LeClaire, and Personnel Committee Chairman Bob Levenson who served as Chair of the Committee.
(BOSTON) – Senator Karen E. Spilka (D-Ashland) received the 2015 Leadership Award from Citizens for Juvenile Justice at the organization’s annual Leadership Celebration last week, in recognition of her work to reform the juvenile justice system, invest in children and support communities in Massachusetts.
After passing the special town meeting last week, the $43,229,373 elementary school project passed the special town election 1211-431. A grant from the Massachusetts School Building Authority will pay $14,058,457 (nearly 33% of cost) toward the project but the cost to the town will be $29,170,916. The new school is slated to open in Fall 2018. The average household will pay approximately $435/year in taxes. The school is set to be built on the "Irvine Property" located at 135 Hayden Rowe Street.
The desire to inspire program will enter it's 3rd year at Hopkinton Middle School. The program implemented a marathon based curriculum for students and relates the marathon to school courses such as math and history.
Under the direction of the Finance Director the Treasurer/Collector provides professional administrative and supervisory work involving the collection, receipt, expenditure and custody of all municipal funds, the borrowing of money, and the custody of tax title properties. The principal will exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative in the planning, administration, and execution of the department’s services; the interpretation and application of laws, regulations, and procedures, and in the direction of personnel.
