Town Manager Norman Khumalo is pleased to share that Gov. Maura Healey and Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll visited the Town of Hopkinton on Thursday and highlighted an important economic development project that has enhanced the Town.

On Thursday, March 7, the Healey-Driscoll Administration traveled to Hopkinton for a tour of the RoslinCT facility as part of the new Executive Office of Economic Development campaign Mass Leads Act.

Hopkinton Select Board Chair Muriel Kramer provided opening remarks with a brief overview highlighting the growth of the Life Sciences industry in Hopkinton, the Town's recent MassBio Platinum Designation that recognizes the Town's efforts to attract life sciences companies, and the importance of continued state and local collaboration. Gov. Healey spoke about her proposed $1 billion, 10-year reauthorization of Life Sciences Initiative.

"We were so excited to receive Governor Healey, Lt. Governor Driscoll, and Secretary Hao at RoslinCT this morning to hear more about this historic investment and re-investment in economic development statewide, not only in biotech but also in the clean energy sector and other businesses large and small across the entire continuum including specific investments in businesses that reflect the diversity we enjoy in our State," said Select Board Chair Kramer. "We look forward to the opportunity to continue to work together with the Governor and her Team advancing the economic strength of Hopkinton and cities and towns all across Massachusetts."

“The Mass Leads Act will strengthen Massachusetts’ global leadership and expand opportunity in our state now and for a generation to come. One key way we’ll do this is by reauthorizing the Life Sciences Initiative for another decade,” said Gov. Healey. “Mass Biomedical Initiatives and RoslinCT are excellent examples of what happens when we invest in the world-class talent and innovation happening right here in Massachusetts. We want to build on their success and welcome more companies to move, start and grow here in our state.”

Many town and state officials attended the event including Town Manager Khumalo, Select Board Chair Muriel Kramer, RoslinCT President and CEO Patrick Lucy, Secretary of Economic Development Yvonne Hao, and Massachusetts Life Sciences Acting Chief Executive Officer, and Vice President of Economic Development and Partnerships Jeanne LeClair.

"We are honored to have Gov. Healey and her team in Hopkinton to celebrate the reauthorization of the Life Science Initiative," said Town Manager Khumalo. "The state-wide initiative can be an investment in our community's thriving biotech hub on South Street and its anchor companies, such as RoslinCT. The success of this industry in Hopkinton is made possible by the strength of our relationship with the state and the private industry, substantiated by partners at MassBio and the Hopkinton Chamber of Commerce.

"This partnership has led to Hopkinton’s most recent designation as a Platinum Community, marking Hopkinton's readiness and competitiveness for innovative biotechnology firms. We look forward to the future of Hopkinton’s Biotech Hub and the impact the Healey-Driscoll Administration will have on the economic vitality of our town."
