The Hopkinton Democratic Town Committee (HDTC) has voted unanimously to endorse the Rideshare Driver Justice Bill (S.666 H.1099) currently before the Massachusetts legislature. The HDTC has expressed their full support for app-based drivers who are fighting for the freedom to unionize, an end to unfair deactivations, living wages for all, and dignity and a voice at work.

Drivers are at the forefront of this movement. They continue to organize in the hopes of winning the right to unionize. Additionally, they are fighting for legislation that will offer the protection of minimum standards in existing state law such as paid sick leave, fair workers compensation for injury on the job, protection against discrimination, and paid family leave -- rights they deserve to, and should, get from their employers.

“The Massachusetts legislature must act now,” said HDTC Chair Amy Groves. “If we do nothing, rideshare drivers will continue to face decreasing wages and the threat of sudden termination, and remain unprotected with no ability to negotiate. In Massachusetts in 2023, that is unacceptable.”

The mission of the HDTC is to foster and sustain an active, informed electorate; encourage citizen participation in government as elected and appointed officials; strengthen the local Democratic Party, both in numbers and in sense of purpose; and work in conjunction with the State and National Democratic Party to secure freedom and justice for people everywhere. New members are always welcome. More information is available at HopkintonDemocrats.org.
