Interim Chief Gary Daugherty is excited to announce that the Hopkinton Fire Department has received funding toward fire prevention efforts through a private grant program.

The $2,846 grant, awarded by mutual insurance company FM Global, was presented to the Hopkinton Fire Department on June 21 and will be used to purchase smoke alarms.
The smoke alarms will be distributed to qualifying residents following a home safety inspection by the department’s Community Risk Reduction team.

“On behalf of the entire department, I would like to thank FM Global for this generous grant,” said Interim Chief Daugherty. “Over the years, I have witnessed multiple situations where working smoke alarms would have saved lives, and this grant helps us to ensure more residents have access to these important devices.”

Over the past 40 years, FM Global has contributed millions of dollars in fire prevention grants to fire service organizations around the globe. Locally, the company has awarded grants to a number of Massachusetts-based organizations.
