Today, Massachusetts State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg announced that the Executive Director and Deputy CEO of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), John (Jack) K. McCarthy, is retiring after 11 years at the MSBA.
McCarthy, who was appointed the Executive Director of the MSBA in January 2012, previously worked for 21 years in state public service, including in the offices of the Inspector General and Secretary of the Commonwealth.
Under his leadership, the MSBA has worked with local officials and the Legislature in providing a sustainable, educationally sound, and efficient program for school construction grants. These successful collaborations have resulted in building or renovations that have provided 21st century schools for students all over the state.
“I want to thank Jack for his countless contributions to the Massachusetts School Building Authority and our state over the last 32 years,” said State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg. “The MSBA would not be the success it is today if it were not for the hard work and dedication of people like him. He surely will be missed.”
“It has been an extreme pleasure and honor to serve the residents of the Commonwealth for the past 30 years,” said John K. McCarthy. “I am particularly proud of the many accomplishments of the past 11 years with the MSBA. We have successfully opened over 300 new or renovated state-of-the-art public- school facilities, providing 21st center learning environments for the children of Massachusetts. I have great faith in my successor to continue the fine work of the MSBA.”
Treasurer Goldberg has appointed Mary Pichetti as the new Executive Director of the MSBA.
Pichetti joined the MSBA in 2007, as the Director of Construction. Since 2008, she has served as the Director of Capital Planning leading the team in developing and implementing grant processes that have supported programs for major projects and repairs.
“Mary has contributed greatly to hundreds of school projects throughout the state for the past 16 years” Goldberg said. “I am confident that with her background, experience, and acute knowledge of the MSBA that she will excel in this new position.”
“It is my honor to have the support of the Treasurer to serve as the next Executive Director of the MSBA,” said Mary Pichetti. “I look forward to continuing to build upon the work that has been done to provide healthy learning environments for the students of Massachusetts.”
