300th Birthday Celebration Logo Contest

By Michelle Murdock, Freelance Writer

Hopkinton will celebrate its 300th birthday in the year 2015. In 2010, the Board of Selectmen established a 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee. The group has been meeting over the last year and is now ready to launch its logo contest. You have until December 13, 2011 to submit your entry. See rules and guidelines below:

YOUR MISSION
Create a logo that captures the spirit and flavor of Hopkinton’s Celebration of its’ 300th Birthday which will take place in the year 2015.

BACKGROUND
Hopkinton is a diverse community of 15,000 residents with a rich and changing history over the past three hundred years. The Hopkinton Board of Selectmen established a 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee in 2010 to plan and organize the celebration. The Committee is seeking a logo that can be used by the Town for outreach purposes and has developed a Tag Line to symbolize the 300th Birthday that can also be used by logo contest participants, “Celebrating our Past, Embracing Today and Inspiring our Future”.

ELIGIBILITY
Any current or past Hopkinton resident, except Committee members and their immediate families, is eligible. There are two categories for entrants, Professional and Amateur. The Committee reserves the right to reject any and all entries.

SPECIFICATIONS
Submit one original and five copies of your logo. Each entrant may submit a maximum of three different logos. All entries must be submitted on 8 ½” x 11” white background papers. All entries must be able to be made available in electronic form and be scalable for multiple uses. A dated cover letter with the following statement must accompany each submission, “I agree that all logo submissions become the property of the 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee. I also agree to have my name publicized if my logo submission is a finalist in this contest.” The cover letter must clearly state whether the logo submission is in the Professional or Amateur category and must also include the name, address, phone number (or e-mail address) of the entrant as well as being signed by the entrant. Any logo submitted which does not follow this format will be considered ineligible.

JUDGING/AWARDS
A panel of community members will review all submitted logos and will select a Grand Prize winner. The Grand prize winner’s logo will serve as the official logo for the 300th celebration and they will receive a cash prize of $300. In addition, a first place runner up from each category will also be awarded a prize of $200.

All entries must be received by 5:00PM on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, the day Hopkinton officially celebrates her 296th Birthday. Entries must be submitted by 12:00AM December 13, 2011, and any entry submitted after this deadline will be considered ineligible.
