Community Notice: Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Receive Main Street Corridor Project Update

To ensure clear communication and timely project updates for the Main Street Corridor Project, the Town of Hopkinton has partnered with the leadership of the Hopkinton Chamber of Commerce in a coordinated effort to keep business owners up to date with the project’s schedule, milestones and next steps. Representatives from the Chamber have been meeting with the project team on a regular basis since the end of January and will continue to do so as the project progresses.

The most recent meeting, held on Tuesday, March 10, provided members of the Chamber’s Board of Directors with an update on the project’s planned Design Schedule, the Right-of-Way Acquisition Schedule and the Construction/Phasing Schedule. All three schedules influence the completion of the project as outlined below:

Design Schedule
● 100% Design Submission made on February 3, 2020
● Comments from MassDOT: March 2020
● Plans/Specifications/Estimate Design Submission(s): March to May 2020
● MassDOT Contracts Review and Bidding: May to June 2020
● Project Advertisement: June 2020
● Contractor Selected by MassDOT: Fall/ Winter 2020
● Construction begins: Spring 2021

Right-of-Way Acquisition Schedule
● Appraisal process completed February 2020
● Offers to Property Owners March 2020
● Select Board votes on easement takings April 2020
● Easements are recorded at Registry April 2020
● Payment to abutters and close out acquisition process with MassDOT April/ May 2020

Construction Phasing/ Schedule
● Notice to proceed is anticipated to occur in the Fall of 2020.
● Shop drawings, order and fabrication of materials and construction staking anticipated Fall 2020 to Spring 2021.
● Construction (field work) anticipated to start in the Spring of 2021 and end in the Fall of 2023.

As the update to Chamber members at the meeting came to end, Chamber President Cristina Morrissiey said, “These communications are not going to end today; we hope to create as much awareness as possible.”
