It’s almost here! Just a few short months away this Fall, the doors will open to the newly renovated and expanded Hopkinton Public Library at 13 Main Street. The new walls of the addition are being painted, furniture has been selected, signage is being designed, and plans are in the works to move the Library back to its historic downtown location. This $11.7 million project is the culmination of years of planning and support from Town leaders and residents. To date, hundreds of Hopkinton families, organizations and businesses have come together to raise over $900,000, or 90% of our community goal of raising $1 million in private gifts for this incredible project for our Town.

Naming Opportunities:
With the reopening of the “hub of our community” only months away, this is your last chance to become a part of Hopkinton history. Many Naming Opportunities in our new Library already have been secured by the generous private and corporate donors to this momentous project. The time is now - in order to ensure that your name or business is recognized on signage at the opening of Library, please secure your Naming Opportunity by June 1, 2017. Some of the limited remaining Naming Opportunities include: Young Adult Section, Technology Classroom, Children’s Activity Room, Children’s Room Information Desk, Elevator, Periodical Lounge and Stacks. (For a full list of available Naming Opportunities starting at $2,500, please visit www.HPLFinc.org.)

1000 Homes:
The plaque honoring the “1000 Homes for Hopkinton Library” is currently in the design phase and is slated be on display at the Grand Opening. Since 2013, hundreds of Hopkinton individuals, families and businesses have joined “1000 Homes”, a unique program honoring Hopkinton residents of the past and present, and the Town’s long tradition of supporting our Library. In 1893, former Hopkinton resident John Quincy Adams put forth a challenge: If the citizens of Hopkinton raised $10,000 and built a library within two years, he would give $4,000 toward the cost of the building. In just one day, current and former residents raised half of the money needed to meet his challenge. Remarkably, with an average gift of little more than $900, fifteen members of the community collectively funded the entire cost of the library – $14,000 – including the construction, furnishings, and even the books. On January 1, 1895, the 1,650 foot gothic structure at 13 Main Street opened. To ensure that your name is included on the plaque honoring Hopkinton’s 1000 Homes, please make your $1,000 pledge or gift by June 1, 2017.
