In a letter to all the parents in the School District, Interim Superintendent Steven A. Hiersche explains that the last snow storm put the District over their allowed days. At tomorrow's School Committee meeting, they will discuss options to meet the 180 days of school obligation.

See the letter below.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As you know yesterday was the 6th day school was closed due to inclement weather this school year. The last day of school prior to yesterday was Friday, June 28th. We are required to hold school for 180 days. At tomorrow evening’s, March 21st, School Committee meeting we will be proposing an option for making up this day to fulfill our legal obligations.

Our choices are to schedule into July, hold school on a Saturday, a day during April vacation, or to schedule school on Good Friday. While none of these choices are good ones, our recommendation to the School Committee will be for an early release on Good Friday. We will send notification of the decision on Friday.

The link to School Committee Policy IMDC of the Policy Manual is attached as it provides guidance if you choose not to have your child attend school for religious reasons, should this be the solution that is chosen. http://www.hopkinton.k12.ma.us/cms/lib4/MA01001785/Centricity/Shared/Sch...

In 17 years of calling off school in New England this is a first for me.

Sincerely,

Steven A. Hiersche
Superintendent of Schools
