College Planning Strategies is holding a Free Public College Planning Workshop tonight in the HCAM Studio beginning at 7PM. The workshop will cover all the major topics including admission and financial aid. According to the College Planning Strategies website you will learn the following:

  • How your assets and income can count against you when applying for financial aid, and what you can do about it.
  • What it takes to position your student to be the best candidate for more gift aid (Free Money) and fewer loans.
  • Which assets are considered when the US Department of Education calculates your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) - which is the absolute minimum colleges will expect your family to pay for one year of school.
  • How preparing your financial aid applications the right way can maximize your financial assistance and minimize your out of pocket expenses.
  • How you can get ahead by developing a customized college plan for all of the college costs you will incur.
  • How to have the government pay a larger portion of your education expenses by legitimately increasing your tax deductions beyond the Hope Scholarship and the Lifetime Learning Credit.
  • How parents and students all too often focus on the "sticker price" of a college. With proper planning, going to a "more expensive" private university may actually end up costing less!
