The Hopkinton Freedom Team and Hopkinton Youth & Family Services are very pleased to announce two upcoming Active Bystander trainings that the Hopkinton community are invited to participate in for free as a way to work toward our town commitment of moving beyond tolerance to promoting town unity and embracing our community’s diversity. One pair of trainings is for high school and college-age youth only on May 25, 2021 and June 21, 2021 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. both days. The second pair of trainings is for anyone over 21 years of age and will be held on May 18, 2021 and June 9, 2021 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. both days. Please go to https://www.hopkintonfreedomteam.org/events for more information, to hear what others in Hopkinton have said about this important training, and to register for the training. Pre-registration a week in advance is necessary. If you have any questions, please send an email to info@hopkintonfreedomteam.org.

These two-part workshops will offer concrete techniques and experiential training on how to effectively stand up against bigotry and intervene in situations of bias, discrimination and marginalization. True Story Theater actors dramatize situations, making them more real and giving participants an opportunity for authentic practice. For Part 2 of the training, participants return to discuss actual stories and situations they have witnessed or experienced and practice the techniques discussed in Part 1. Participating in both parts is highly recommended. Due to Covid-19 concerns, the training will take place on Zoom, which many have found more engaging and helpful than in-person trainings. Previous participants from Hopkinton have found this training to be the best and most important training they have ever taken. True Story Theater’s training is both unique and instrumental in providing direct hands-on training and learning additional insights and strategies not only to strive toward having conversations instead of confrontations in 1:1 and group settings, but also to speak up and stand up for others in need.

Thank you!
