The Hopkinton High School Drama Ensemble will present Harvey, the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Mary Chase made famous by the film starring Jimmy Stewart, March 8-10 in the high school auditorium at 90 Hayden Rowe St.

Elwood P. Dowd is the perfect gentleman, his only flaw being that his best friend is a pooka; a six-foot tall, invisible rabbit named Harvey. When Elwood begins introducing Harvey around town, his sister, Veta Louise and her daughter Myrtle Mae are embarrassed. They become determined to commit Elwood to a sanitarium. In error, it is Veta who is committed rather than Elwood after she confesses that, on occasion, she has seen the rabbit herself. Eventually the mistake is realized and a frantic search begins for Elwood and his friend. Elwood eventually agrees to undergo treatment to satisfy his sister, but in the end Veta realizes that she loves her brother just as he is and accepts Harvey as a member of the household, understanding that she doesn’t want either of them to change.

The play features the work of several high school seniors who have been on stage in most, and in some cases all, of the main stage productions at the high school during their time there. They include Matthew Fliegauf, Lucy Medeiros, Brittany Forsmo, Daniel Potapov, Galen Graham, Olivia Ozmun and Zachary Ritterbusch.

Performances are Thursday March 8 at 4 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, March 9 & 10 at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $10. Please join us for an entertaining production of this classic play.
