RECYCLING ATTENDANT

Town of Hopkinton, Department of Public Works

Salary: $15.50 per hour

Schedule: Every Saturday year-round; Occasional Sundays in the Spring and Fall

The Town of Hopkinton seeks a Recycling Attendant for the Town of Hopkinton
Under the general supervision of the DPW Director, the Recycling Attendant is responsible for the
overall operation of the town’s Recycling Center during designated times located on E.L. Harvey &
Sons, Inc. (ELH) property. Performs various activities at the site, which requires heavy lifting and
physical labor monitoring disposal loads, and traffic control. This position involves contact with town
residents and staff at ELH and requires excellent quality and commitment to customer service.

RESPONSIBILITIES
 Provides for weekly opening and closing of the facility every Saturday 7:30 am to 3:00 pm,
with extended hours on Sundays in the Spring and Fall for use of the brush dump.
 Attendant must maintain a site presence at all times when the center is open
 Maintains a safe and clean environment in and around the site at all times including snow
removal and treatment as necessary.
 Communicates immediately any unsafe or unclean conditions and of any illegal dumping
activities at the site immediately to ELH.
 Conducts visual inspections or resident’s loads as needed to prevent disposal of improper or
prohibited materials.
 Assists residents as needed with appropriate placement of recyclable items into designated
containers and monitors containers to prevent contamination and overflow.
 Provides for safe passage of residents and vehicles through the site, including directing traffic
as needed and enforcing speed limit and traffic flow patterns.
 Provides superior customer service.
 Arranges pick up/emptying of containers with ELH as necessary.
 Assists ELH staff with the pick-up of containers and compacting of the brush area.
 Monitors all activities at the site; reports any illegal dumping, accidents, injuries, or any other
unusual or suspicious occurrences at the site to ELH and/or Hopkinton Police Department.
 Provides for collection of fee based electronics according to fee schedule; is responsible for
accurate turnover of all fees collected to the administrative office.
 Coordinates with other town staff to maintain recycling initiatives, such as the Mercury
Recovery Program, and collaborates with staff on new recycling and collection programs.

QUALIFICATIONS
 Ability to perform heavy lifting and moving of items and materials.
 Ability to withstand inclement weather conditions; this position works primarily outdoors.
 One (1) to three (3) years’ experience in Customer Service Preferred.
 Experience in a trash collection and/or recycling environment Preferred.
