“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” ― Plato

Let me start, as always, by thanking all those who have supported my efforts in the past. Thanks to all, we raised almost $7000 in 2015 including my sales at the Hopkinton Town Common where I donate all profits and efforts to the marathon. I would love to surpass that this year! Clorinda has been the group's tireless leader for many years. She has given so much of her time, effort and heart so that those benefiting could have limitless opportunities through music. This is her last year as president of the organization and I am running as a thank you to her.

In addition, this year is a special year for me. Not only do I have children who have benefited directly from the support of the Hopkinton Music Association, but I also know what it can do for others. For my nephews, this group has given their lives meaning, built confidence and gave them a purpose; it was their saving grace. It gave them opportunities they would not have had without its existence. I know they are not alone. Music is universal. This society makes music possible for all regardless of the student's challenges.

I embrace the equal opportunity for all and want students to have a support system so that they can have an opportunity regardless of personal disadvantages. As many of you know, I was economically disadvantaged as a child and it took a village to give me the opportunity I needed to reach my dreams. I, in turn, would like to continue to do that for others.

Here is more about this altruistic organization and what they do for students: Hopkinton Music Association (HMA).

The Hopkinton Music Association is a volunteer parent organization whose mission is to promote, support, and advocate for exceptional music education for all students in the Hopkinton Public Schools.

Here are some of the ways your donation can help: Obtain and coordinate volunteers for MICAA and music concerts throughout the year; uniforms/jackets for HS Bands, Choral, and Orchestra groups; lesson scholarship for current music students grades 6-11 and scholarships for Seniors; buses for the performances; Instrument purchase, maintenance and repair; enrichment programs and much more.

I plan to sell the bells at the start of the marathon, as usual, with the help of my family. I also sell bells through Esty. If you want to donate that way, just write the word donation in the notes and I will donate all profits from your order. You can order personalized Marathon themed bells from there as well as hundreds of different designs or custom made bells. Check out my shop at https://www.etsy.com/shop/Bellagrams

Many have asked, does selling the bells at the Hopkinton Common prior to the race affect your run? Of course, it does! I am on my feet for many hours Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday before the race. I do not run for a PR (personal record), I call it charity awareness and hope the idea catches on!!! As always, rarely is the weather agreeable that time of year, but what the experience represents is worth it to me and sets a wonderful example for my family. People know I don’t need to run, I have run 7 times before and they know I am a cold weather wimp. I will always run The Boston Marathon in hopes of helping my community and building a stronger tomorrow. Music definitely enhances all of our lives and is a great charity to support. So let’s make beautiful music together!

As Billy Joel says, “I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.”

As always, any tax-deductible donation is appreciated. Thank you so much for your support in advance.
