On Monday May 10, 2021 the Hopkinton Police received a call from an on-site detail officer that the construction crew working on Main St at Grove St had just struck a gas line. Officer’s immediately deployed to close down Main St and all side streets leading to the affected area. The Hopkinton Fire Department responded and took control of the scene. Traffic was diverted around the area and some businesses and homes in the immediate area were evacuated. Eversource gas was immediately notified and responded with personnel. There have been no reported injuries. The Fire department and Eversource are monitoring gas levels in the area at this time. The Superintendent of Schools has been notified as a precaution. Fire crews are at the schools monitoring the situation. At this time, crews are working to close down the line and repair the break.

Water and Sewer Superintendent Eric Carty stated "Due to the major gas leak in the center of town and the need for the fire department to hook up to several hydrants in the area, there could be some discoloration throughout the system."
