Overnight Lane Closures on I-90 East and Westbound between Woodland Road in Southborough and Flanders Road in Westborough, through November 2021

What is happening

Overnight I-90 East and Westbound Travel Lane Closures for Highway Improvement Work

Highway improvement work will be performed on I-90 in Southborough and Westborough through November 2021.

This work will require overnight single and double lane closures on I-90 eastbound and westbound. At a minimum one travel lane will be maintained in each direction during overnight lane closures.

Sunday night through Thursday night lane closures begin at approximately 7:00 PM each night and will continue to 5:00 AM the following morning.
Friday and Saturday night lane closures will also be employed as needed to complete the work starting at approximately 7:00 PM.
Friday night lane closures end Saturday at 7:00 AM (Westbound) and 9:00 AM (Eastbound)
Saturday night lane closures end Sunday at 9:00 AM (Westbound) and 10:00 AM (Eastbound)

MassDOT is continuing with the highway work on I-90 which includes the removal of the temporary median crossovers and temporary lighting, guardrail and median barrier replacement, highway paving and stormwater drainage upgrades. These activities will be similar to other MassDOT highway improvement projects. Additionally, work will continue on local roads under the I-90 bridges to complete sidewalks, apply a protective coating, and install landscaping and snow fencing. No detours for the local roads are anticipated; however, lanes will be taken using alternating traffic set-ups with Police Details in place.

As with any major construction project, the work is subject to change without notice due to weather and other unforeseen conditions.

There will be advance signage in place to alert drivers to the I-90 and local road lane closures.

MassDOT has replaced bridges on I-90 east and westbound over Flanders Road in Westborough and Parkerville Road, Cordaville Road, and Woodland Road in Southborough as part of this project. The replacement of the eight bridges (2 spans per local road) was completed on Monday, August 9. Remaining work entails more typical highway improvement work, which will not require full weekend closures and crossovers, but will require lane closures.

There will be advance signage in place to alert drivers to the I-90 lane closures.

How will this affect me?

If you travel on I-90:

During the work, travel lanes in both directions of I-90 will be reduced between Route 9 in Framingham (Exit 111) and I-495 (Exit 106) in Hopkinton, which will result in higher than normal congestion.

Travel Tips

Plan ahead: The reduction of I-90 travel lanes will result in higher than normal congestion, drivers should plan accordingly.

Drivers traveling in both directions should expect delays.
