School Lunch Prices Increase

By Michelle Murdock, Freelance Writer

A note from the Office of the Superintendent of Schools was sent to parents today explaining the increase in cost for student lunches. See notice below:

On August 8th, the Hopkinton School Committee voted to increase the school lunch price by $0.25 at all levels. As a result, the new prices are $2.25 at the Elementary Schools and $2.50 at the High School and Middle School. The price of premium lunches at the High School and Middle School will be $3.00. These increases can be attributed to a new Federal law (Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010) which requires the average lunch price to be at least equal to the $2.46 Federal subsidy for a free lunch.

On a related note, we have heard some parents’ frustrations that it is difficult to access information about students’ school lunch accounts. We are striving to implement an on-line program to allow families to create, manage, and monitor these accounts. We will keep you apprised of this as our progress unfolds.

In the meantime, please contact Ms. Sherry Toscano in our Food Services Office at 508-417-9394 or at stoscano@hopkinton.k12.ma.us if you have any questions or concerns about the Hopkinton School Lunch Program.
