Space and Place, an HCA Photography Exhibit by Carolyn Latourelle September 4-24

By contributor,

The photography of Carolyn Latourelle will be featured in the Space and Place exhibit at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts, 98 Hayden Rowe in Hopkinton from September 4 -24. Latourelle was the second place winner of the HCA’s recent On the Edge exhibit, and works at the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University as Assistant Program Manager to Academic Affairs. A special reception, open to the public, will be held Friday, September 7 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Gallery hours are weekdays from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 pm. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

“Space and Place is the result of two concurrently developing bodies of work,” Latourelle said, “In Space I have eliminated the traditional, art historical representations of the female nude. I invite the viewer into a different place, where the female nude no longer functions as an object of display. The Place exhibit features photographs I took of the rooms in my grandparent’s house using a 4x5 pinhole camera. My hope is to not just preserve the memory of the space in a tangible form but to engage the space and solidify the essence of each room of their house.”
