Town Manager Norman Khumalo is pleased to announce that the Town of Hopkinton will be offering a COVID-19 Emergency Housing Relief Program for residents.

The Emergency Housing Relief Program, funded by Community Preservation Act funds, was approved at the 2021 Hopkinton Annual Town Meeting. The program will provide COVID-19-related emergency mortgage and rental assistance for low and moderate income households.

"The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has been difficult for all, but some have felt the financial burden heavier than others due to a loss of income or other financial means," Town Manager Khumalo said. "To combat this unexpected financial burden, we encourage residents to apply for our COVID-19 Emergency Housing Relief Program that will assist them with their housing costs."

Residents should note that mortgage assistance may be provided only to those households living in housing subject to an affordable housing restriction (recorded deed restriction) or in exchange for an affordable housing deed restriction. Rental assistance may also be provided only to households living in units eligible for inclusion on the State’s Subsidized Housing Inventory (SHI).

The COVID-19 Emergency Housing Relief Program is for those who, due to loss of income or other assistance caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, are in need of help to pay rent or mortgage.

The program will cover up to 70% of a household’s monthly rent payment or up to 70% of a household’s monthly deed restricted mortgage payment. Qualified applicants are eligible for up to three months of housing assistance. This may be for back rent or mortgage payments, or it may apply to the next successive payments, or a combination thereof. Those approved for the program will have payments made directly to landlords and mortgage holders on their behalf.

The deadline to apply for the COVID-19 Emergency Housing Relief Program is Sept. 1 by 4:30 p.m. Click here to learn more and access the application forms.
