Public Hearing Notice: Greyhound Friends, Inc. 167 Saddle Hill Road

The Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at 8:30 p.m. at HCAM TV-Studio (lower level), 77 Main Street, Hopkinton, pursuant to M.G.L. c.140 §137C relative to the Greyhound Friends, Inc. dog kennel at 167 Saddle Hill Road, for the purpose of determining whether the kennel is being maintained in a sanitary and humane manner and/or if records are properly kept as required by law. This public hearing has been rescheduled from August 8, 2018.

Iris Eileen Pentheny, 95

Iris Eileen Pentheny, 95, most recently a resident of The Meadows of Marlborough and formerly a 62 year resident of Hopkinton, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018. She was the wife of 53 years to the late Kenneth G. Pentheny. Born in Bristol, England, she was the daughter of the late Mabel (Peacock) and the late William Henry James. She is also predeceased by her five siblings: Kenneth, Phyllis, and Doris of England, Lilian of Hyannis, and Elsie of Australia.

VIdeo: Education Station Opens at 77 Main St. in Hopkinton

A business called the "Education Station" has opened on the 2nd floor at 77 Main St. in Hopkinton. The business provides a number of services which helps council and coach students. Some of the services include early reading and mathematics skills, A.P. boot-camps and ACT/SAT test preparations. "The Hopkinton Senior Center and Hopkinton Library will be hosting another Our Time Memory Cafe’ event Tuesday,
September 11th, 1-3 at the Hopkinton Library, 13 Main Street, Hopkinton, MA. The event is offered for those in Hopkinton and surrounding areas living with forgetfulness, mild cognitive impairment, or dementia and their caregiver, family, and friends.

Pasquale Pat Baratta, 79

Pasquale “Pat” Baratta, 79, of Hopkinton, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018. Born in Astoria, NY, he was the son of the late Maria (Cecchetti) and Michele Baratta. He was the devoted and loving husband of 54 years to the late Helen (Duchacek) Baratta, whom he missed intensely until he went to join her.

Harriet A. Graves, 76

Harriet A. Graves, 76, recently of Uxbridge, and formerly Hopkinton, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018. Born in Whitinsville, she was the daughter of the late Bertha (VanDyke) and Francis Jackson. She was the wife of the late William H. Graves Jr.

George T. Welch Sr., 75

George T. Welch Sr., 75, of Hopkinton, passed away Friday, August 31, 2018. Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late Gertrude (Gassett) and Alfred Welch. He was the husband of the late Gail J. Welch who passed away in January 2018.

George loved life and enjoyed having a good time. He is survived by his children, Tracy Welch, George T. Welch Jr., and Sherry Starkey and her husband, Jonathan. He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Samantha King, Danielle King, Dillon Welch, Justin Welch and Hope Splaine. He is predeceased by a brother, Alfred “Pudgie” Welch.

Hopkinton Earns Insurance Premium Credits through MIIA Rewards Program

Hopkinton has received $15,506 back on its workers compensation and property casualty insurance costs – applicable toward premiums for the next fiscal year—thanks to an incentive program offered by the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA), its insurance provider. Hopkinton earned the credits through proactive and voluntary participation in loss prevention and risk management activities throughout the year, conducted in partnership with MIIA.
