Seven Years of Animal Rescue

By contributor,
Brown Dog Coalition

We are so grateful to our wonderful coalition of adopters, fosters, volunteers, donors, and supporters. The help we receive is truly invaluable! The saying "it takes a village" is so true — since we're 100% volunteer-run, our need for help is always present.

If you've been following our social media, you know how much we still need fosters. Though we've been lucky to find several new foster homes over the past year, we always need more; so many fosters end up adopting their foster dogs or cats! Many past adopters have told us they would like to foster once their new pet settles in. If you're one of those adopters, please reach out — we need you!

Despite a drastic decrease in applications, it was a record year for adoptions. This year, 348 dogs and 255 cats found their forever homes for a total of 603 animals adopted in 2023! This is 100+ more adoptions than last year, and our highest number in one year ever. But it's also the maximum number of animals we can hope to rescue in one year unless we can continue to grow our network of fosters. Even though adoptions continue to be successful, animals are staying in our care longer. It's not unusual for our special-needs pets to wait a little longer for the right home, but even kittens, puppies, and highly sought after animals are going weeks without applications.

So once again, we are asking for your help. Fostering, donations of money or supplies, volunteering time and skills, sharing and engaging with our social media posts, and spreading the word about Brown Dog Coalition are all ways you can contribute. By supporting us, you're helping thousands of animals find their perfect people so they can thrive. We’re looking forward to continuing our mission and are so thankful for all your help and support on this journey.
