Ashland Post 77 Head Coach Dan Sullivan recaps 2014 Season

By Tom Nappi, News Director

Ashland had a nice run, going deep into the District 5 playoffs and finishing the season 15 and 8, Head Coach Dan Sullivan recapped the 2014 season: "It would have been nice to make it into the final 8, but as a coach you could not have been more proud at how the kids played this season. It was a group that we thought could be pretty competitive right from the get go and they certainly proved to be that and really a fun group to be around."

Pitching in district 5 was very strong in the 2014 season and Ashland had some very good versatility on the mound, Sullivan stated "I think with any good team, you half to have some depth on your pitching staff and when your playing games on top of each other like you do in a legion season, you need to be deeper than just 1 or 2 guys and luckily we were able to dive into our 5th, 6th and 7th pitchers to give us quality innings. Every team we play is a talented group of all star players just like we have."

Dan Sullivan commented on 2 key contributors to post 77, Hopkinton Hillers Chris Moberg and Nick Burns; " When that part of the order comes a long, you feel like you can score runs. I love that Nick is a lefty and Chris is a righty, and I think they present a lot of trouble for opposing pitchers when you have 2 power bats like that in the middle of your order." "Nick was so consistent through the high school season and was a huge addition to our lineup." "With Chris, he has the chance to hit the ball 350 400 feet every time he's up there, he doesn't get cheated out of any at bats and he came up for some big ones for us this year, that's for sure."

Coach Sullivan also gave us a bit of a preview for the 2015 season stating that several players will be available and Evan Park and Greg Holler are likely to return.
