Communiteen Clothing Drive Ongoing Through December 14

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

This winter, Middle School students are lending a helping hand to others less fortunate than them. As part of the after school club CommuniTeen, students helped organize a clothing drive to collect new or gently used winter apparel for families in need. Clothes collected from the drive will go to support Project Just Because's "Keep a Family Warm Project". The drive will be ongoing until December 14th and items can be dropped off in the collection box located in the main lobby at the Middle School.

With about 20 members in the club, the goal of CommuniTeen is to give students a chance to make a difference, not only in Hopkinton, but throughout the world. During meetings, students discuss ideas of how they can help the community as well as promote ongoing fundraisers. And it's the idea of giving back that resonates with the students.

Each month, CommuniTeen works on a new project. They recently organized a fundraiser which raised over $700 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. And currently, the club is brainstorming ideas for how to participate in the annual MLK Day of Giving Back.
