A large crowd turned out for the March 3rd Grand Opening of Compass at Hopkinton, a state-of-the-art Memory Support Assisted Living community, located within the Golden Pond Assisted Living Campus. Compass, a subsidiary of Senior Living Residences, , specializes in memory support for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

In addition to a tour of the new 40-room apartment community, guests were treated to an abundant selection of refreshments and h’orderves and listened to executives from Compass at Hopkinton and Senior Living Residences as they talked about their unique approach to treating the symptoms of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. According to their press releases, Compass at Hopkinton is unique in that it addresses the needs of seniors exhibiting the early symptoms of memory, often called Mild Cognitive Impairment, which is marked by memory loss and mild confusion and is often described as the stage between forgetfulness associated with normal aging and Alzheimer's disease.

“Our team has 20 years experience serving Massachusetts seniors with memory loss,” said Tadd Clelland, Executive Director of Compass at Hopkinton. “We are excited to bring our research-based treatment program to the MetroWest areas, to help meet the growing need for top-notch dignified residential care for individuals with dementia. We are grateful for the warn reception we have received from individuals in Hopkinton and our neighboring towns.”

Compass has 40 single resident rooms available and is already between 50 to 60 percent occupied.

“We invite anyone in Hopkinton who is currently caring for a family member with memory loss to take a look at our new community,” said Robert Larkin, President of Senior Living Residences. “Our Guest Program will accommodate your and your family member with memory loss as our guests for a full day – your loved one will be immersed in all programming, including our innovative adult-learning Reconnections Program, spend time with our professionally trained caring associates and try out our delicious “brain-healthy” meals.”

Chamber of Commerce President Bob McGuire, who was present for the grand opening, was glad to have a new business in town and a new member of the Hopkinton Chamber of Commerce.

“I think that any new business that comes to town is wonderful and this seems to be a real complementary business to what they are doing here,” said McGuire. “These folks did join the Chamber and we’re happy about that as well. As you might know, the Chamber is getting involved with economic development in town and this is all part of the process. We hope to retain tenants and also to attract new tenants to town.”
