On Wednesday, May 25 the Hopkinton Police Department held its 4th Annual Awards Ceremony to recognize outstanding acts performed in the line of duty. In addition to recognizing Chief Rick Flannery for 30 years of service, the Distinguished Service Award was presented to Officer Gregg DeBoer and the Life Saving Award was also presented to DeBoer and Office Patrick O'Brien.

A Letter of Merit is awarded to Department members and civilian employees to recognize an act in the line of duty that meets some, but not all of the criteria for other awards and in doing so, demonstrate initiative and competence. A Letter of Merit was awarded to Dispatcher Thomas Gorman.
Life Saving Award
Officer Patrick O'Brien
Officer Greg DeBoer
- Actions include cardiopulmonary resuscitation or other activities taken for the preservation of life.
- The action taken actually preserved a life.

- An exemplary act in the performance of their duties, which may or may not place the employee in a perilous situation.
- An act which had a positive effect on public safety.
Distinguished Service Award

- While in a hazardous environment or perilous situation, the individual officer exhibited outstanding courage while performing his/her duties.
- An exemplary act whereby a person who is a major threat to the welfare of the community or the officer is arrested.
