Planning Board Member to Run for Selectman

By contributor,

Dick MacDonald of 3 Wyman Lane announced today that he is seeking a position on the Board of Selectmen in the May election.

“I am running for Selectman because I want to become more involved in the management of our town. Town Service is not a spectator sport. People who care about Hopkinton and have opinions on important matters can make the most difference by getting involved.”

Dick and his wife Sharon have lived in town since 1994. They have two sons, Jack and Christian. Dick currently serves on the Planning Board and the Downtown Revitalization Committee. He is an avid golfer and skier, and he has volunteered on many occasions to coach youth baseball and soccer. Dick is also a member of the Advisory Board of Hopkinton Country Club, is active in Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay, and is a member of the Hopkinton Sportsman’s Association. He is also a private pilot.

Dick received a B.S. in Marketing from Boston College. He is a Vice President of Institutional Sales with American Beacon Advisors, the former pension arm of American Airlines. Prior to entering the investment field, Dick was a partner in a real estate firm in the Berkshires, specializing in residential sales and appraisal, commercial leasing, and property management and development.

“I love the outdoors. We chose to live here because Hopkinton offers the best of a country lifestyle while still being close to Boston. What makes Hopkinton special is the unique balance between essential public services, the rights of property owners, and the character of the community. I realize the importance of a great education for our children and understand that our tax base must continue to be diversified to maintain the quality of our school system. My Planning Board experience, investment acumen, and appreciation for the outdoors will provide a balanced perspective as I carry out my duties. I look forward to serving the people of Hopkinton on the Board of Selectmen.”
