Scenes from Hopkins All School Meeting

By Courtney Taylor, Master Control

On February 16, Hopkins School students, staff, and parents gathered in the gym for the All School Meeting. The All School Meetings showcase what students have been learning in the schools, as well as what they have achieved. This month's meeting was focused on making positive changes in the school by standing up to bullying and the value of hard work.

After the Pledge of Allegiance was said, a saxophone quartet made up of senior boys at the high school performed at the meeting. All but one member of the group started playing together when they were students at Hopkins.

Next, a video called The New Cool was shown to the audience. The video was done by thirteen boys in the school with the help of Mrs. Shea, a guidance counselor at the school. The video demonstrates the old cool, picking on and making fun of others, and the new cool, which means including everyone in activities and standing up to bullying.

The January Principal's Cabinet was next with a video demonstrating the value of hard work. After the video, HALO Awards, standing for Helping and Leading Others, were given to Mrs. Shea and four students who helped to start a fundraiser in memory of Allie Lundy, a student who passed away from cancer. The fundraiser sells t-shirts and gives the money to cancer research.

During the class sharing portion of the meeting, fourth grader Advait Nene played his tabla drums, a set of drums from India, for the school.

Ms. Tremblay's and Mrs. Smith's classes were next with an excerpt from their performances of Pirates from Grammar Island. After some student readings from Miss Mack's class and the announcement of the March Pricipal's Cabinet members, the meeting was called to a close.
