Teens for Teens Project Collecting Donations on Saturday September 8

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

Scouting has always been a part of High School Senior Alex Kirshy's life. Ever since he was a Cub Scout, he has actively served the community, participating in such events as scouting for food and Christmas tree recycling. All his years of scouting have culminated in working toward becoming an Eagle Scout, the highest advancement ranking in Boy Scouting. In order to earn this prestigious honor, Kirshy must successfully plan and complete a community service project that demonstrates many of the skills learned in Boy Scouts.

An active participant in the High School's Drama Ensemble, Kirshy is notorious for making audiences laugh. And therefore, he wanted to utilize his strengths as a performer and communicator in his Eagle Scout Project. After meeting with Project Just Because founder Cherylann Lambert Walsh, Kirshy became aware of just how few items were available that fit the needs of teenagers and decided to create the Teens for Teens project.

Kirshy is looking for a variety of items for both males and females, including sneakers, hoodies, underwear and boxers, socks, sports equipment such as footballs and baseballs, gift cards to clothing stores such as Target or Forever 21, as well as other teenage needs such as beauty products and school supplies. As per Project Just Because guidelines, all items need to be new or unused, which Kirshy says makes those receiving the items feel more appreciated.

Kirshy will be collecting items on the Town Common on Saturday September 8th from 9am-4pm. For those who cannot make that dates, there are currently drop off locations at the Fire Station, the High School Office, 16 Pheasant Hill Road, and at the Project Just Because Office on South Street. The collection will be ongoing until mid-September.
